NEET PG MD/MS Fees (All Branches) & State-Wise Closing Ranks (All Categories) — All India

Every branch prices differently once you leave a government college, and every state's merit list closes at a different rank. This page puts both in one place — what MD/MS actually costs by college type and specialty, and how far the 2025 counselling merit list actually reached, state by state, category by category, across government, private and deemed-university seats.

Covers: Govt · INI-CET (AIIMS/PGIMER) · State-quota private · Management/NRI quota · Deemed universities Cutoff data: Government, private & deemed-university closing ranks, 18 states + All India Quota Updated for: 2026 admission planning
Section 1

MD/MS fee by college type, all India

India has no single national fee regulator for PG medical seats — tuition is set independently by state Fee Regulatory Committees, individual private trusts, and deemed-university managements. That produces five genuinely distinct pricing tiers. These are typical annual-tuition ranges reported across colleges in each tier; your actual seat's fee depends on the specific college and branch (Section 2).

Tier 1 · Nominal

Government medical colleges

₹8,000 – ₹1,60,000per year, tuition only

State-run colleges; fee is subsidised and essentially flat regardless of branch.

Tier 1 · Nominal

INI-CET institutes

₹2,000 – ₹6,000per year, tuition only

AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER, NIMHANS — centrally funded, stipend-paying, near-free tuition.

Tier 2 · State quota

Private colleges, state quota

₹1.5L – ₹40Lper year, varies sharply by branch

Government-allotted seats inside a private college — far cheaper than the same college's management seats.

Tier 3 · Management/NRI

Private colleges, management/NRI quota

₹8L – ₹1Cr+per year, top clinical branches

Same college, management- or NRI-allotted seat. Clinical branches can run 5–10× the state-quota fee.

Tier 3 · Deemed

Deemed / private universities

₹3L – ₹68.5Lper year, widest spread of any tier

DY Patil, KMC Manipal, Amrita, SRM, Bharati Vidyapeeth and similar — branch-tiered pricing is the norm here.

🏠 Add to the sticker price

Most colleges charge a separate, partly refundable caution/security deposit (commonly ₹50,000–₹3,00,000 at private/deemed colleges) plus hostel and mess charges — nominal at government/central institutes (~₹300–500/month at AIIMS), but ₹2–4 lakh/year at deemed universities. Some private universities also attach a service/residency bond (₹20–25 lakh class) if you don't complete a mandatory post-PG bond period — check this clause before you sign.

Section 2

Does the branch you pick change the fee?

At government and INI-CET colleges: no. Tuition is flat and nominal whatever specialty you're allotted — an MD Anatomy seat and an MD Radiodiagnosis seat cost a student at AIIMS or PGIMER the same amount. At private and deemed universities: yes, substantially — colleges tier tuition by a branch's perceived earning potential and demand, roughly in this order:

Lowest
Pre-clinical
Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry
Low–mid
Para-clinical
Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Community Medicine
Mid–high

📋 Rajasthan makes this tiering a state-wide rule, not just one college's choice

Rajasthan's Fee Regulatory Committee mandates the same three-tier structure across every private medical college in the state: Pre-clinical ₹2.0 L/yr → Para-clinical ₹6.0 L/yr → Clinical ₹32.5 L/yr — identical for both state-quota and management-quota seats within a private college.

📈 What's moved recently

Deemed-university fees keep climbing: 46 of India's 62 deemed-university medical colleges now charge over ₹1 crore total for the MBBS course alone (up from 38 the year before) — MD/MS fees at the same institutions have risen in step. Newly-deemed Tamil Nadu colleges saw the sharpest jumps (one college's total fee rose over 360% after gaining deemed status).

Gujarat approved a 7–12% fee hike across 19 MBBS and 10 MD/MS institutions for 2025-27. Uttar Pradesh's Subharti Medical College moved the opposite way, voluntarily cutting six non-clinical MD branches from ₹8.64L/yr to ₹0.50L/yr for 2025-26. Treat every figure below as a snapshot, not a permanent price — always confirm the current year's fee with the college's admission cell.

Section 4

Qualifying cutoff vs. closing rank — not the same thing

NEET PG is scored out of 800 (200 MCQs, +4/−1). The qualifying cutoff is the minimum percentile you need just to be eligible for counselling. The closing rank (what this page calls the "last cutoff") is a completely different number — the rank of the last candidate actually admitted to a specific seat, which only shows up after counselling ends. A branch/college/category can qualify thousands of candidates and still only admit down to a much tighter rank.

NEET PG 2025 qualifying cutoff, by category
CategoryStandard (Round 1–2)Reduced for Round 3
General / EWS50th percentile7th percentile (103 marks/800)
General PwBD45th percentile5th percentile (90 marks/800)
SC / ST / OBC40th percentile0 percentile (−40 marks/800)

MCC relaxed the qualifying cutoff sharply before Round 3, 2025, to fill seats that were going vacant after Rounds 1–2 — one reason 2025 closing ranks reach deeper into the merit list than in a typical year.

Section 5

All India Quota (AIQ) — closing ranks, NEET PG 2025

MCC doesn't publish one "AIQ closing rank" — it's inherently branch-specific, since a seat in a less-competitive branch fills last. Below: the tightest branches (Round 1) and the loosest branch, Anatomy (Round 2, the effective floor of each category's merit list).

State-wise closing ranks, by category

Click a state to expand it. Figures are the closing rank (lower = more competitive) for government MD/MS seats in that state's own counselling, by category, for the branches each source actually reported — most states report a spread from a high-value clinical branch down to the least-competitive branch, so both ends are shown where available. Caution — AIQ quota only This is the 15% All India Quota allotment at Tamil Nadu-located colleges, not Tamil Nadu's own state Selection Committee quota (which uses OC/BC/BCM/MBC/SC/SCA/ST categories). Genuine TN state-quota 2025 closing ranks were not found in a usable form for this page.

Tamil Nadu was the weakest state in our research pass — the only private-quota fragments found were 2022–23 and too incomplete to table reliably (e.g. Government-quota MD Radiodiagnosis, OC category, closed around rank 12,512 in that period). TN's own portal (tnmedicalselection.net) is the authoritative source. Tamil Nadu's deemed universities (SRM Kattankulathur, Sri Ramachandra, Saveetha, VMKV Salem, Meenakshi, Chettinad) have solid fee data — see the Fee Structure section.

Frequently asked questions

The questions we hear most often from students and parents planning a NEET PG MD/MS admission. Tap a question to expand it.

What is the MD/MS fee at a government medical college in India?

Nominal — typically ₹8,000 to ₹1.6 lakh per year in tuition at state government colleges, and just ₹2,000–₹6,000 per year at INI-CET institutes such as AIIMS, PGIMER, JIPMER and NIMHANS. Unlike private colleges, the fee stays flat across branches — an MD Radiodiagnosis seat costs the same as an MD Anatomy seat. See Section 1 above.

How much does MD/MS cost in a private or deemed medical college?

It depends heavily on the branch. Pre-clinical branches like Anatomy and Physiology can run ₹3–7 lakh a year, while high-value clinical branches — Radiodiagnosis, Dermatology, Orthopaedics — at the very same college often cost ₹28–76 lakh a year. See Section 3 for named-college examples across states.

What's the difference between the NEET PG qualifying cutoff and the closing rank?

The qualifying cutoff is just the minimum percentile needed to sit for counselling (50th percentile for General, 40th for SC/ST/OBC in Rounds 1–2, relaxed to 7th/0th percentile for Round 3 in 2025). The closing rank — what this page calls the "last cutoff" — is the rank of the last candidate actually admitted to a specific seat, branch and category, and is a far more specific, much tighter number. See Section 4.

Which branch is the most expensive for MD/MS at private and deemed colleges?

Radiodiagnosis and Dermatology are consistently the costliest clinical branches across nearly every private and deemed college covered on this page, usually followed by Orthopaedics and General Medicine — often 5–10× the fee of a pre-clinical branch at the same institution. See Section 2.

Is a government-quota seat in a private college cheaper than a management-quota seat?

Yes, substantially. A state-quota (government-allotted) seat inside a private college typically costs a fraction of a management- or NRI-quota seat in the exact same branch at the exact same college — often 3–10× less.

Do deemed universities have their own state-wise cutoff, like government colleges do?

No. Deemed universities across India fill their MD/MS seats through the single national MCC counselling pool, not through any individual state's counselling process, so their closing ranks are reported at the national/All India Quota level rather than state by state. See Section 5.

What extra costs should I budget for beyond the tuition fee?

A caution/security deposit (commonly ₹50,000–₹3,00,000 at private and deemed colleges, partly refundable), hostel and mess charges (nominal at government colleges, ₹2–4 lakh a year at some deemed universities), and — at a few private universities — a service or residency bond clause worth ₹20–25 lakh if you don't complete a mandatory post-PG bond period.

How is NEET PG counselling different between AIQ and state quota?

The All India Quota (AIQ), run by MCC, covers 50% of government college seats plus all deemed-university seats nationwide. The remaining state-quota seats are counselled separately by each state's own DME/DGHS/DMER body, often using that state's own reservation categories rather than the standard General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS scheme.

Which states had the tightest (most competitive) NEET PG 2025 closing ranks for top branches?

Based on the state-wise data on this page, government colleges in Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat and Odisha showed some of the tightest closing ranks for high-demand branches like Radiodiagnosis, Dermatology and Respiratory Medicine in the General category — several closed under rank 3,000. See Section 6 for the full state-by-state table.

Where can I verify the latest NEET PG cutoff and fee figures myself?

For cutoffs — MCC's official portal (mcc.nic.in) for AIQ and deemed-university seats, or your state's DME/DGHS/DMER counselling website for state-quota seats. For fees — the specific college's own admission cell or prospectus, since India has no single central PG-fee regulator. See Methodology below for how the data on this page was compiled.

Section 9

Methodology — and how to verify these numbers yourself

⚠️ Read this before you rely on any single number on this page

No official body — not MCC, not any state DME/DGHS — publishes a clean "closing rank by category" summary table. They release raw, candidate-wise allotment PDFs running to thousands of rows. Every closing-rank figure on this page is therefore drawn from secondary sources — education-consultancy sites and news coverage — that compiled those official PDFs into readable tables. We've marked which figures trace to an official portal via a news report (Official, via report) versus a consultancy aggregation (Consultancy-aggregated), and labelled every table with its year and round, because these numbers move round to round and year to year.

Fee figures carry the same caveat: India has no central PG-fee regulator, aggregator sites disagree with each other on the same college (we flag this where it happened, e.g. KMC Manipal), and colleges revise fees most academic years. Treat every number here as a planning range, verify the specific college/branch/year against the college's own prospectus or admission cell before paying anything, and confirm current-cycle cutoffs directly with MCC (mcc.nic.in) or the relevant state counselling authority before finalising a choice.

Section 10

NRI & management quota — fees & eligibility

Two quota types sit above the regular state/AIQ merit list at nearly every private and deemed college covered on this page — priced highest, and governed by different eligibility rules than the general category. Here's what typically applies; always confirm the specific college's and state's current rules before you commit.

Highest fee tier

NRI quota

For NRI/OCI/PIO candidates themselves, or a candidate sponsored by a "first-degree relative" (commonly a parent, sibling or spouse) who is an NRI. The candidate must still clear the NEET PG qualifying cutoff — there's no separate, easier exam for this quota. Sponsorship typically needs a notarised affidavit, proof of relationship, and the sponsor's passport/visa (embassy attestation in some states). NRI seats are commonly capped around 15% of a private or deemed college's total seats; unfilled NRI seats often revert to the management pool.

Second-highest tier

Management quota

Seats a private college's management allots directly, rather than through the state's merit-only list — though most states still require registration on the centralised counselling portal for these seats. Eligibility is the same NEET PG qualifying cutoff as any other candidate. Most states don't publish a separate closing-rank list for management quota; allotment depends on seat availability and the college's own process, which is why the ranks in the table below read looser (higher number, less competitive) than the general list at the same college.

⚠️ Rules vary by state and college — treat this as general practice, not a guarantee

NRI-quota eligibility (who counts as a "first-degree relative", which documents are accepted, whether foreign nationals qualify on their own) differs between states and even between colleges in the same state. Some states route NRI quota through the centralised counselling authority; others leave it entirely to the college. Always get the current year's eligibility circular from the specific college's admission office, or from your state's DME/DGHS/DMER, before assuming you qualify.
